Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) uses gentle electrical impulses to stimulate the vagus nerve. The vagus nerves control our parasympathetic system (resting and digesting) by sending signals to the brain to release calming neurotransmitters.
The vagus nerves are some of the longest nerves in the body. They carry signals between the brain, heart, and digestive system, so when the signals are not working correctly, they can cause a lot of issues in the body. Some studies show that by stimulating the nerves, it can help treat conditions like epilepsy, depression, headaches, and chronic pain because the vagus nerve helps activate your relaxation response which helps the body “rest and digest.” With most of these studies, these devices are implanted and invasive.
Recently wearable devices that stimulate the vagus nerves have become more popular. The Pulsetto FIT is designed to use electrical impulses on the neck area to help improve relaxation, reduce stress and anxiety, and improve overall wellbeing.
I’ve also taken a look at the Pulsetto Lite which is their entry level model. Watch that video here!
A sampling of Vagus Nerve Stimulation Research Studies:
Tension headaches are very common, and they can really shut you down. Stress is the number one cause of tension headaches. These simple stretches and exercises can help relax the muscles that are causing the pain.
Finding a comfortable position to sleep at night can be challenging for some people. People who sleep on their sides and suffer from back, hip, and/or shoulder pain may find these tips helpful to get a better night’s sleep.
We squat every day from sitting down in a chair to getting out of bed, or even sitting safely on the toilet, but squats can be a painful task when something hurts, or our muscles are weak. Practicing squats in a reverse order can help strengthen the muscles and work on doing them correctly and safely.
Muscle Scraping can help promote tissue healing, improve motion, and help reduce pain. This form of scraping therapy evolved from the traditional Chinese medicine healing technique known as Gua sha.
Have you ever tried to go to sleep, but you just ended up lying there and getting frustrated because sleep seems just out of reach? If so, these simple stretches and the 4-7-8 breathing technique should help relax your body and help you fall asleep fast.
Bell’s Palsy is the sudden weakness of your facial muscles on one half of the face. These exercises may seem like you are just making funny faces, but this will help get the weak muscles working again.
The pelvic floor muscles are often overlooked, and people don’t think about strengthening them. Since the pelvic floor muscles are small, it doesn’t take a lot of movement to work them, so it’s best to start with a little and slowly progress.
Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) is a treatment that uses electrical impulses to stimulate the vagus nerve. The ZenoWell Luna utilizes transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation, which targets the branch of the vagus nerve in the ear.
Recumbent cross trainers are basically a combination of a recumbent bike and an elliptical. They’re a comfortable, low impact way to improve strength, range of motion, and cardiovascular health.
